Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell should be under new ownership soon.

That’s according to Hartwell Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Speaking at Saturday’s Eggs and Issues breakfast, Johnson said the deal should go through in the next couple of weeks.

“I’d like to inform you that the closing of the golf course and the taking over by the new owners should happen by the first of March,” Johnson said.

The golf club, golf course itself and its buildings are owned by a company called Diversified Golf, Inc.

However, the city owns the land the course sits on.

Last September, the Hartwell City Council signed off on a plan to sell the Catechee Golf Club to an unnamed developer.

Johnson said as of last week, all parties involved had now agreed to the sale and it is moving forward.

“As of Thursday night, the Rec Authority that issued the bonds many years ago has voted to approve the deal,” Johnson said. “So now it is back in the hands of the new buyer to approve and move forward. He has big plans for Hartwell. He and many of his associates are well-versed in hospitality and economic development. So we are hopeful about what they can do for Hartwell.”

Johnson did not divulge the name of the group purchasing Cateechee.
