Carnesville Poultry Farmer Loses Poultry House, 20,000 Birds to Fire

A poultry farmer in the Double Churches Community has lost a poultry house and the chickens inside.

The fire broke out at the poultry farm on Paynes Road and Highway 320 Thursday night Dec. 9, destroying one of three poultry houses.

Volunteer firefighters from Double Churches, Bold Spring, and Red Hill responded to the blaze at about 11:30p that night.

engulfed in flames but were able to contain the fire to the one house, saving two others and two barns full of farming equipment.

No firefighters nor the farmer who owned the poultry house were injured.

Firefighters are not sure how the fire started.

According to the farmer, who asked not to be identified, about 20,000 chickens were lost.

The farmer said he is grateful to all of the public service personnel that responded to the scene.
