Carnesville Photography Student at NGTC Wins Scholarship

A Carnesville photography student at North Georgia Technical College is one of seven students to receive a scholarship from a local construction company.

Ron Cantrell of Ron Cantrell Construction, Inc., presented the photography students with scholarships for their work documenting one of the company’s recent construction projects.

The students from NGTC’s Photography Department traveled to the campus of Tallulah Falls School (TFS) to photograph the multi-million dollar renovation of Tallulah Falls School Upper School Academic Complex, highlighting many of RCC-I’s improvements and enhancements.

The original TFS academic building, completed in 1956, consisted of only two stories.

Ron Cantreall Construction’s team of designers and construction crews renovated and expanded the building to include a third floor, adding 18,000 square feet of classroom space.

First place scholarship winner was Georgia Zumwalt of Jefferson, who received a $1,000 scholarship to pay for tuition or purchase equipment.

The 2nd place winner was Sierra Smith, of Carnesville.   Smith received a $500 scholarship.

3rd Place, and the recipient of a $250 scholarship, was Megan Shead of Appling.

Honorable Mentions were given to four students who also had photos selected by Ron Cantrell Construction.

They included: Victoria Boyce of Toccoa, Maria Gonzalez of Clarkesville, Colleen Gearty of Hoschton, and Blakely Sheriff of Dawsonville who will each receive a $50 scholarship.

Smith and the other winner’s photos will be used in a variety of brochures and publications as well as on the Ron Cantrell Construction Web site.

Each student will also receive credit for their photography in the brochures and on the company’s Web site.
