Carnesville Native Named to Fill North Georgia Tech Dean Post

leslie mcfarlinA Carnesville native is the new Dean of North Georgia Technical College’s Academic Affairs Department.

On Wednesday, the college announced Leslie McFarlin has stepped up to fill the role.  The post has been vacant for the past two years.

“I am very excited that Leslie will be stepping up to fill this role,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Kathie Ivester. “She is tireless in her commitment to excellent instruction for all of our students, and her enthusiasm for new initiatives is contagious.”

McFarlin joined the North Georgia Technical College in July 2007 as a Math instructor.

In 2009, she agreed to lead the College in the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as required by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) Commission on Colleges (COC).  The QEP outlined an initiative for redesigning Learning Support Math.

In addition to her responsibilities as QEP Coordinator, McFarlin continued teaching math on both the Clarkesville and Currahee campuses.

McFarlin has also volunteered to participate in a multitude of College initiatives such as Complete College Georgia and Achieving the Dream.

A lifelong resident of Franklin County, McFarlin is a graduate of Franklin County High School and holds a BA in Midldle Grades Mathematics from Emmanuel College and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Piedmont College.

McFarlin plans to continue teaching through the summer session even as she begins her duties as a Dean on July 1.
