Carnesville Fire Dept to Hold Junior Firefighter Day

Some Carnesville Elementary School students will have the opportunity in May to spend a day with Carnesville, Red Hill, Bold Springs, and Five Area Firefighters to learn about what it’s like to be a firefighter.

Junior Firefighter Day takes place on May 25th from 9-3 pm at the Carnesville Fire Department for all interested Carnesville Elementary fourth and fifth graders.

Carnesville Assistant Fire Chief Clayton Bryant said this is a great way for kids to learn about what it takes to be a firefighter and to see exactly how they go about answering a fire call.

Bryant said the kids will get to actually use some of the real fire equipment that day.

“The kids will be able to have hands-on experience with the Bold Springs Fire & Rescue performing a vehicle extrication. They will get to operate the tools and see what it takes to extricate a victim (Sylvester the cat) in a car,” Bryant said. “They will also get to tour an ambulance with Franklin County EMS and get a brief overview on CPR and basic first aid. And Each kid will also get to experience a mock fire call where they will get to ride in an engine with lights and sirens and extinguish a simulated fire. This will be a joint venture by all departments hosting the event.”

Bryant said lunch will be provided by Smitty’s BBQ of the Bold Spring community free of charge.

Additionally, at the end of the day, each kid will leave with a smoke detector and other PPE which has been donated by Georgia Poultry Company of Carnesville.

The Junior Firefighter day is limited to just 25 Carnesville Elementary 4th and 5th-grade students.

Applications to sign up are in the school’s front office and are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All forms must be returned by April 14 and parents will be notified if their child is one of the 25.
