A career criminal is back behind bars after passing out while allegedly trying to burglarize a home in Franklin County.

It happened Friday, according to Franklin County Sheriff Chief Investigator Jimmy LeCroy.

LeCroy tells WLHR News officers responded Friday to an address in Royston after the home owner called authorities to report someone had broken into his home.

While waiting for deputies to arrive, the homeowner found a white male unconscious at the scene.

Investigators were able to determine that the suspect had allegedly made forcible entry into the house and during the act of burglary cut himself on glassware he was allegedly trying to steal.

The injury resulted in massive blood loss and the suspect passed out, according to LeCroy.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene where the suspect, identified as 51-year old Phillip Nathaniel Wooten of Canon was treated and then transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.

LeCroy said Wooten was charged with burglary after investigators found the homeowner’s property in Wooten’s vehicle.

According to LeCroy, Wooten was released from state prison in March after serving two years of a 10 year sentence for theft by receiving stolen property was on parole at the time of his arrest.  LeCroy said Wooten has a lengthy criminal history going back to 1994.

LeCroy said more charges are expected in this case.  Wooten remains in the Franklin County Detention Center.
