Candidates for BOE Post 6 Race Say Growth Biggest Issue in Franklin County

We continue our look at the candidates in Franklin County for the Franklin County Board of Education Posts 5 and 6 with the candidates for Post 6.

In that race, incumbent and Board Chair Robin Cato is running against challenger Matt Brannon.

Cato is running for her third term. A native of Franklin County and a former teacher in Florida, Cato is now a practicing attorney.

When asked what the biggest issues are for teachers and the school system in Franklin County, Cato pointed to poverty and growth as the biggest challenges.

Challenger Matt Brannon and his family moved to Franklin County from Brunswick Georgia eight years ago. For Brannon, growth is the biggest issue facing the school system right now.

Along those lines, both Cato and Brannon said the school system needs to be working with other county stakeholders to develop a long-range plan so they’re prepared for the new students they see coming.

Additionally, both Cato and Brannon agree critical race theory should not be taught in schools.

The election is May 24 and early voting continues through Friday, May 20.
