C.A.S.T. FOR KIDS EVENT THIS SATURDAY AT GUM BRANCH MEGA RAMP

Lake Hartwell plays host to a lot of different fishing events every year, but this weekend an event is coming up for special kids with special needs.

It’s called C.A.S.T. for Kids and it takes place Saturday, at the Gum Branch Mega Ramp in Hartwell from 8:30a to 1p.

Joe Richardson is the Event Coordinator.  He said it’s a way for parents of special needs children to get them out for a day of fun.

C.A.S.T. stands for Catch a Special Thrill.

The CAST for Kids Foundation was formed in 1991 to join volunteers who love to fish with children who have special needs and disadvantages for a day of fishing in the outdoors.

The Foundation became an official 501(c)3 in 1994 and currently hosts three programs: C.A.S.T. for Kids, Fishing Kids, and Take a Warrior Fishing.

Richardson said this is the second time C.A.S.T. for Kids has held an event in Hartwell and they’re expecting another good turnout like last year.

He said the event can host up to 40 kids and is totally free and registration is still open.

Pre-registration is requested by going online to https://castforkids.org/event/lakehartwell/ but Davis said they will take walk-ups.

In addition, Richardson said they do need more volunteers, and people willing to volunteer their boats for the event.

If you would like to volunteer or bring your boat, you can contact him at 404-275-8303 or Rhonda Davis at 706-599-2272.
