Busy But Fairly Quiet on Local Roads, Interstates Over Easter Weekend

The Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post and the Franklin County Sheriff’s office report a busy holiday weekend on the Interstate and local roads, but no major accidents or arrests.

Post Commander Al Whitworth tells WLHR News traffic on the Interstate over the weekend was particularly heavy, but troopers handled only a few minor accidents in the three county area.

However, authorities in Stephens County say a wreck Saturday has one woman facing charges.

It happened Saturday on Brookhaven Circle, according to troopers from the Georgia State Patrol Toccoa Post.

Troopers say a 2001 Nissan Maxima driven by 45-year old Michelle Black failed to negotiate a curve, and crossed the center line.

The vehicle then ran on to the west shoulder of the road, hit a guardrail and a tree before overturning.

Black suffered minor injuries and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Troopers charged Black with DUI drugs and failure to maintain lane.
