A Stephens County man is under arrest, charged in a weekend burglary, but it was how authorities were able to find him that’s the kicker..

The Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 25-year-old Devon Holder of Abbey Lane in Toccoa early Saturday and charged him with one count of First Degree Burglary.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that it stems from a reported burglary early on Saturday on North Abbey Lane Court.

“At 2 o’clock Saturday morning, the suspect entered the sliding glass door and went in, was stealing some items from inside the home and was confronted by the occupants of the home, at which time he ran out the door,” said Shirley.

Shirley said deputies were able to quickly get a beat on the suspect thanks to something he left behind.

“It was snowing Friday evening and Saturday morning,” said Shirley. “The suspect lived in the neighborhood and once deputies had a good description of him, they noticed he left his tracks in the snow.  So, they followed his tracks from the victim’s home to his home.”

Shirley said deputies, along the way, were also able to recover the belongings of the suspect, including one of his shoes.

The sheriff said  at last report, Holder was in the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
