Bowman Man Charged With 9 Counts in Death of Girlfriend

A Bowman man has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of a woman on New Year’s Eve.

According to a report in the Elberton Star, it happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 31 when deputies with the Elbert County Sheriff’s office were called to a home on the Bowman Highway where a woman was found unresponsive.

It was determined she died of multiple stab wounds.

She is identified as 21-year-old Destiny Autumn Huff.

A BOLO was put out for her boyfriend, 34-year-old Andrew Nicholas Berry who was located about six hours later in Hart County near Ruckers Grove Church Road and arrested.

According to the report, in addition to murder, Berry is also charged with nine other felonies including malice murder, five counts of aggravated assault, two counts of cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.

Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond said later that Huff’s murder was the result of a domestic dispute.

The ECSO was assisted with Saturday’s investigation and manhunt by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia State Patrol, Elbert County Emergency Services and the Elbert County Coroner’s Office.
