The City of Bowman is the recipient of a major transportation grant award.

At their regular meeting last week, city councilmen learned the town is one of a select few cities that will be receiving the Gateway Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The grant is in the amount of $40,000 and is for the purpose of beautifying state highways.   Bowman City Mayor Pete Gibbons says he believes this will help improve the economic outlook for the City of Bowman, as well as increase the incentive for potential businesses to set up shop in the city.

“We do everything we can to put our best foot forward here in Bowman, along with everything else we are doing, will help show that any interested businesses out there we mean business about bringing our community back to life, and that we are going to put our best foot forward”, said Gibbons.

Mayor Gibbons also says he is happy that the residents of Bowman are finally getting something back for all their hard work.
“Our residents have spent a lot of money in taxes to state and federal governments, and I promise you I will do everything I can, as well as the rest of the council, to fight and get some of that money back”, said Gibbons. “We’ve given plenty of our money to state and federal governments over the years, and it is about time they give a little back to us.”

The next steps going forward will be establishing a plan detailing what will be done with the funds and then submitting those plans to GDOT for approval.
