No Bond For Suspects in Carnesville Bank Robbery

Bond has been denied for two suspects in the First Citizens Bank robbery in Carnesville.

Last week Superior Court Judge Harvey Wasserman denied bond for 59-year-old Randy Cofield of LaGrange and 36-year-old Brandy Campbell of Atlanta.

Cofield and Campbell will have their first hearing before Judge Wasserman this Friday in Franklin County Superior Court.

The pair were arrested Monday, May 2 not long after the robbery, according to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas.

Thomas said on Monday afternoon, May 2, Cofield allegedly entered the First Citizens Bank in Carnesville and presented a handwritten note to the bank teller demanding money.

The Sheriff said Cofield took an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency and fled on foot to a nearby passenger vehicle.

Witnesses, along with surveillance video identified Cofield and a get-away vehicle, which were then provided to multiple regional law enforcement agencies throughout Georgia and South Carolina.

Later Monday, the Georgia State Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on Highway 129 in Jackson County from the descriptions of the BOLO.

Officers were able to determine that the vehicle and occupants matched the descriptions of the armed robbery suspects in Franklin County. Franklin County Sheriff’sdeputies then seized the suspect’s vehicle and took both driver and passenger into custody.

Cofield is charged with two counts of bank robbery for the Carnesville and Lavonia bank robberies.

Campbell is charged with being a party to a crime as she allegedly drove the getaway vehicle in the Carnesville robbery.

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle tells WLHR News a third suspect is being sought who was the getaway driver in the Lavonia Truist Bank robbery on April 12.
