Boat Classes, Boat Show Among Events in Hart County This Weekend

Finally, just a reminder about the boating safety class being offered this weekend in Hartwell by the Georgia DNR.

DNR law enforcement officer Craig Fulgum says the class is open to all boaters, experienced and novice ages 12 and up.

“One law is requiring mandatory boating education for children so if you want to be a proactive parent, now is a good time to avoid the long lines later and get your child signed up for a boating safety class,” Fulgum said.

This Saturday’s class will run from 9a to 2p Saturday at the Hartwell Lake Office on U.S. 29 in Hartwell. It is open to anyone in the Northeast Georgia area.  Fulgum said knowing how to stay safe on the water is particularly important now that State lawmakers have passed several new boating laws.

And when the class is over you might want to swing by the Hartwell Marina for the 20th Annual Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Show and Festival.

Presented by the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Antique Classic Boat Society, the show this year will feature over 40 antique and classic wooden boats from across the country.   There will also be over 40 classic Porche’s on display as well.

But the fun doesn’t stop there.  Hart County Chamber director Nikki Meyer said other events are going on in Hartwell as well.

“The Farmers Market opens Saturday from 7a to noon, but the Hart County Botanical Gardens is also holding their annual plant sale on Friday and Saturday from 9a to 5p,” Meyer said. “And Saturday night, the Savannah River Productions is doing the musical, “1776” at the Lonnie Burns Fine Arts Center.”

Meyer said tickets for the production of “1776” are still available.
