Banks County Man Holds Law Enforcement at Bay, Threatens Suicide

Daniel Brent LewallenA Banks County man is behind bars after threatening to commit suicide in a stand off with law enforcement. 

It happened in the early morning hours Tuesday at a home on Westmoreland Road in Lula. 

According to Banks County Sheriff’s spokesperson Deputy Carissa McFaddin,  deputies were called to the home on a report of domestic dispute at about 1:45 Tuesday morning. 

McFaddin said 30-year old Daniel Brent Lewallen was in the home with a shotgun, threatening to shoot law enforcement as well as himself. 

McFaddin said through the joint effort of Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Banks County Fire and EMS, and Banks County E911, Lewallen, was taken into custody without further incident and the firearm was secured by law enforcement personnel at approximately 4:45 a.m.  

Lewallen was charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

Additional charges are pending.

McFaddin said Lewallen has an extensive violent history which includes multiple aggravated assaults, cruelty to children in the first degree, possession of firearm by a convicted felon and additional family violence charges.  

He remains in the Banks County Detention Center.
