Banks County Man Arrested in Atlanta With Suspicious Package

A suspect wanted in Banks County is behind bars in Atlanta.

Atlanta Police Sargeant Greg Lyon told the Atlanta Journal Constitution they had arrested 45-year old Chester Thomas Akins after a suspicious package with wires sticking out of it had been found in his SUV near Underground Atlanta.

A bomb squad was called in and found the package and determined it was not a threat.

Akins was wanted in Banks County for Felony Theft by Taking and three counts of Criminal Damage to Property under the Family Violence Act.

Banks County Sheriff’s spokesperson Carissa McFaddin tells WLHR News on Saturday, Akins allegedly told his girlfriend that a bomb had been placed near their home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s EOD team and the Hall County Sheriff’s office Bomb Detection K-9 Team was called to the Purcell Road home and cleared the area.

While on the scene, McFaddin said investigators found much of the inside of the home had been damaged and some items taken.
