In Banks County, authorities have released the name of the suspect they believe was involved in a high-speed chase Sunday in Maysville.

Banks County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Carissa McFaddin said the suspect is identified as 29-year old Richard Michael Hammett.

McFaddin said Hammett is believed to be driving a stolen white 2000 GMC Yukon that has front-end damage.

On Sunday, Hammett allegedly led Maysville Police and Banks County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase in another vehicle McFaddin said he had tried to steal.

There, Hammett ditched the car on Hembree Road and fled on foot.

Deputies using search dogs and helicopters combed the area Sunday afternoon and evening but did not find Hammett.

McFaddin said Hammett is known for wearing disguises, including wigs and women’s clothing.

Hammett is described as a white male, in his late 20’s or early 30’s with short dark hair.

Warrants for Hammett’s arrest have been issued, which include charges of burglary according to McFaddin.

According to Georgia Department of Corrections records, Hammett was released from prison in October and is on parole.

Anyone with information on Hammnett’s wherabouts is asked to contact Banks County Sheriff’s office at 706-677-2248 or your local 911.
