Authors Festival Planned for Saturday in Lavonia

The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority and the Lavonia Friends of the Library are hosting the first ever Festival of Authors Saturday from 10a to 1p at the Gazebo on Main St. in downtown Lavonia.

Surprisingly, Franklin County and Lavonia are home to literally dozens of published authors spanning everything from science fiction novels to children’s books to historical biographies.

DDA and Better Hometown Director Marie Morse said it promises to be a great time to come out and meet the authors and buy some books and enjoy what the downtown area has to offer.

“This will give everyone a chance to come out Saturday to meet our local and regional authors,” Morse said. “We actually have 25 authors that will be present. We will have complimentary lemonade and local guitarist Eli Rousey will provide the entertainment.”

Morse said downtown shops and restaurants will also be open all day.

Among  the writers scheduled to be at the Festival of Authors include, Courtney Esco, author of the young adult novel, “Free Fall,” Marie Kinneer, who wrote the novel,  “Learning to Live Again,” Peggy Parson Sands, author of “A Cup of Joe” the story of her cognitively challenged brother, and John Randolph Poole, who penned the historical account entitled, “Cavaliers, the 2nd Georgia Cavalry Under Wheeler and Forest.”

And the event is not just for adults.  Morse said a number of children’s activities are planned as well.

“Author Tica Tallent will read from her book, “Jazzy and the Dog Walk,” Morse said. “We also will have Twister the Clown and face painting. The Ferst Foundation will also have a booth and they will be giving away free books to children.”
