An Elbert County resident can rest easy now, after two Atlanta men are behind bars on identity theft related charges.

According to Investigator Darren Scarborough with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, who asked not to be identified, began to notice some unusual purchases on his credit card between October 21st and  October 29th

Scarborough said that Jackson County law enforcement arrested one of the suspects, who was using the Elbert County victim’s identity, in an Atlanta motel.

After being arrested, the suspect informed officers where his partner was located, which led to a search warrant being carried out at an Atlanta address.

“In the residence, authorities found a card maker and actually found a receipt where they had ordered a computer from Best Buy,” Scarborough. “They’ve ordered Travelocity credit cards and order anything they could order. They would run with one name for three or four days until they they thought they were close to being caught and then they’d make another one and use it for three or four days.”

Arrested were Jonathon Marcel Perry, 36, and Brandon Mitchell Williams, 30, both of Atlanta.

Perry and Williams are facing felony Identify Fraud charges from Elbert County, but according to Scarborough, the two are also facing similar charges in a handful of counties across the state.

The pair are being held without bond in the Jackson County jail with a hold on them for Elbert County.
