Arrest Made in Double Homicide in Hart County

Maurice Norwood

Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland reports an arrest has been made in the murders of Alexius Spencer, 25, and Jerece Teasley, 26 of Hartwell.

Morris Maurice Norwood, 59 of Hartwell, Ga was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder for both victims with additional charges as well.

Sheriff Cleveland issued a press release Tuesday night announcing the arrest.

The murders happened on Redwine Church Road early Monday afternoon.

Teasley reportedly died at the scene, and Spencer was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“Now we have two little kids without a mama,” the Sheriff said Tuesday.

Monday afternoon, investigators took two people into custody as persons of interest but later released them.  Cleveland told WLHR News Tuesday they had not been completely ruled out.  He did not say in his press release if Norwood was one of those interviewed Monday afternoon.

Cleveland did not give a motive for the murders in his press release.

Sheriff Cleveland would like to thank his investigative staff and Special Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and the Georgia State Patrol, DNR, Georgia Department of Corrections K9, and Hart County First Responders.

He said the investigation is ongoing at this time.
