Applications for Home Heating Help for Seniors 65 and Over Starts Tuesday

Appointments for home heating and water assistance for seniors age 65 and older and the medically homebound will begin tomorrow, November 1.

The Georgia Department of Human Services through 9th District Opportunity in Gainesville is helping to pay heating and water costs for low-income homes with either gas, propane, or electric heating.

This year, one-time payments will be made by check issued to the home heating suppliers up to $500.00.

Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

Applicants age 65 and older must wait until 12:01 am tonight to call and schedule an appointment. Appointments will not be taken any sooner.

To make an appointment for home heating help, you can call toll-free 855-636-3108 or go online to www.ndo.org/eap.

For help with your water bill, you can call 706-384-3495 beginning tomorrow.

If you are age 65 and over and plan to apply, remember to bring certain documents.

Those include age verifications of everyone living in the home, verification of all household income received within the past 30 days, such as check stubs, everyone’s social security numbers in the home, a valid ID such as a driver’s license or State ID and a recent heating and water bill.

Ninth District representatives are no longer able to access that information for you. Appointments must be made ahead of time and no walk-ins will be allowed.

Home heating and water help for low-income households under the age of 65 begins December 1.

Last year, Ninth District issued a press release at the end of November stating that all of the money allotted for heating assistance had run out before December 1 when general low-income families could apply for help.

Anne Marcengill with Ninth District tells WLHR News it’s known how much funding Franklin County will receive this year.
