Advance Voting Brisk in Franklin County

People votingVoting is also brisk in Franklin County, just four days into the three-week advance voting period.

Elections Superintendent Gina Chappalear says more voters than expected have turned out to cast an early ballot.

“It’s going really good,” Chappalear said late Wednesday afternoon. “We’ve had over 106 people vote in the last three days. That’s more than we’ve had since I’ve been here. And we’ve sent out over 180 absentee ballots. That’s probably double of what I’ve sent out previously.”

Chappalear said there hasn’t been any real voter confusion, but she does recommend voters study the sample ballots ahead of time.

“If they don’t know what’s on the ballot, they’re welcome to call and we will fax them a copy or put one in the mail to them,” she said. “Or they can go to the Secretary of State’s Web site and click on the My Voter Page. That’s what I would tell most people is to review the ballot ahead of time because it is quite lengthy.”

And while poll workers in her office in Carnesville has not been as overwhelmed as the Hart County Registrar’s office, Chappalear says they have been busy.

“Our poll workers are doing great and things are running smoothly,” she said. “It has been busy, we’ve actually  had four or five people in line at a time and for me that’s something new to see.”

Again, to view a sample ballot you can go to your local Registrar or Board of Elections office or go online to the Secretary of State Web site at www.sos.ga.gov and click on MVP which stands for My Voter Page.
