Absentee Ballots to Begin Going Out on October 11

If you have turned in your absentee ballot application for the November 8 general election but have not received your mail-in-ballot, don’t panic, they’re coming.

Hart County Elections Supervisor Robin Webb says she has received several phone calls from people who have already turned in their ballot applications but have not received them in the mail.

“We don’t mail ballots until October 11th, so if anybody is wondering where their ballot is, they have not been mailed.  If you know you’ve applied and all of that’s taken care of, they will go in the mail October the 11th.

So if you have already turned in your absentee ballot application in your respective county for the November general election, it’s coming.

If you plan to vote in this election absentee-by-mail, Webb says you must turn in your application by Friday, October 28th, in the Georgia County where you are registered to vote.  Webb also says even if you voted by mail in the May primary, you must request a new absentee ballot for the November general.  The only exceptions are for voters who are elderly or disabled, but even those voters must have requested to receive an automatic ballot for the general when they requested their absentee ballot for the primary.

“If they put on their application that they wanted to stay on the voter list or on the absentee list for this election cycle and they checked ‘elderly or disabled,’ they will automatically get their ballot this time.  If they don’t remember (whether or not they requested to stay on the ballot for the general), just call us and we’ll say ‘Oh yeah, you’re on the rollover list.  You’re fine.'” (or you’re not on the rollover list and need to request a new application).

Webb says if you are registered in Hart County and are unsure whether or not you are signed up for absentee-by-mail voting for November 8th’s general election, give her a call at 706-376-8911.  If you are registered in Franklin County and want to either check up on the status of your absentee-by-mail ballot application or you would like to request a mail-in ballot, 706-384-4390.  And of course, if you’re registered in another Georgia county, call that county’s elections office to confirm your status or request an absentee ballot.

Remember, all absentee ballot applications for the November 8 general election must be received on by 5:00pm on Friday, October 28.  And if you’re not registered to vote at all, the deadline is Tuesday, October 11.  If you have not voted at all in the last two elections, you may be removed from your county’s voter list.
