Absconded Sex Offender Captured in Banks County

William Andrew ToweA Watkinsville man is behind bars in Banks County for failing to register as a sex offender.

34-year old William Andrew Towe was released in April from State Prison after serving three years on multiple charges including failing to register as a sex offender.

On Friday, Banks County Sheriff’s deputies received word was staying in a motel in Banks Crossing.

Banks County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt Carrissa McFaddin tells WLHR News that when officers arrived at the motel, Towe had already fled on foot.

An all out search for Towe was then conducted using the Banks County and Lee Arrandale State prison K9 units as well as the Georgia State Patrol Aviation unit to find Towe.

McFaddin said Towe was tracked to a business in Jackson County but again managed to escape.

The search for Towe continued through the night and during the night, authorities received a tip Towe might be staying at a house in Commerce.

Early Saturday morning, McFaddin said authorities surrounded the house and found Towe inside.

He was arrested without incident and remains in the Banks County Detention Center.
