AAA to Offer “Tow to Go” Program Over Holiday Weekend

AAA Travel projects 34.7 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Labor Day holiday weekend, the highest volume for the holiday since 2008 and a 1.3 percent increase over 2013.

The Labor Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, August 28 to Monday, September 1 and many revelers will be celebrating the extra day off from work with alcohol.

More than one in five consumers (21%) said they rarely or never use a designated driver while away from home and drinking, according to a recent AAA Consumer Pulse™ Survey.

That’s why AAA and Bud Light strongly encourage motorists to plan ahead before they celebrate Labor Day.

AAA offers a program called, Tow to Go.

Triple A spokesman Matt Nassworthy says it’s a last resort for those who need a safe ride home.

The Labor Day weekend is the last hurrah for summer, the last weekend for people to go out and party and have a good time,” Nassworthy said. “What we’re going to do is be there as a safety net for those who don’t have a designated driver. We’ll come and pick you and your vehicle up and get you home safe.”

Whether you are a AAA member or not, you can call for a Tow to Go ride anytime this weekend, beginning today through Monday, September 1.

AAA will then safely transport you and your vehicle home or somewhere safe within 10 miles.  Since its inception in 1998, Tow to Go has safely removed more than 23,000 intoxicated drivers from the roads.

Nassworthy says the service is designed to be used as a last resort.

The Tow to Go program is offered based on availability of AAA drivers and tow trucks during times of high call volume.

In Georgia, you can call the Tow to Go anytime toll-free at: (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
