9th District Congressman Doug Collins Bill Passes Out Of Committee

The U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs has passed a bill introduced by Congressman Doug Collins of the 9th District, which includes Franklin and Hart counties, that will protect Isreal’s military advantage over its Middle East neighboors.

House Resolution 1992, The Israel Qualitative Military Edge (QME) Enhancement Act, was  introduced by Collins, who is the Vice Chair of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee.

The legislation also increases accountability and transparency in government as it pertains to the relationship between Israel and the United States.

Current law supports the American-Israeli relationship by requiring the President to submit a report on the status of weapons systems sold to countries in the Middle East every four years.

H.R. 1992 will require a report every two years.

Additionally, the measure broadens the definition of QME to take into account the impact of cyber warfare on Israeli defense.

H.R. 1992 passed out of committee by voice vote and now awaits consideration by the whole House of Representatives.
