92.1 Listeners Help Make Forever Bag Collection a Big Success, Says NE GA United Way

An effort by the United Way of Northeast Georgia to help children transitioning into foster care was a huge success, thanks to the help from Lake Hartwell Radio listeners.

April was National Child Abuse Awareness Month and National Volunteer Month.

To celebrate, the United Way of Northeast Georgia asked for your help to make Forever Bags for local children in the foster system.

The Forever Bags are duffle bags, drawstring pinch bags, or school backpack bags that they filled with items to help make the transition to a new home easier.

United Way of Northeast Georgia Alison Alwes spokeswoman said it was a way to help children in the foster system have something of their own.

Alwes said Monday that thanks to many of our listeners who heard the story on our station, they collected a total of 178 forever bags plus additional items like soap, diapers and baby wipes, hand sanitizer, Kleenex and more.

Alwes said they were able to connect with people in Franklin County who donated

Alwes said they will delivering the Forever Bags this Thursday to Children First, Inc. In the Athens area and Northeast Georgia CASA offices in Franklin, Hart, Elbert, and Stephens counties for distribution to the foster children they serve.
