AARP TAX-AIDE’S FREE TAX SERVICE FOR TY22 BEGINS FEBRUARY 6th

After the first of the year when the holidays are over – officially – attention then turns to filing our tax returns.

And for the 30th year, the AARP Tax-Aide program will be available in Hartwell.

“Tax-Aide provides FREE tax preparation service, including electronic filing of returns during the tax season for anyone who needs it,” said Dixie Dennis, a volunteer tax preparer for the Tax-Aide program. ” There are no upper or lower income or age limits for Tax-Aide assistance and there is no requirement to be an AARP member.”

However, some tax items are out of the scope of the volunteer tax preparers, Dennis said.

“They include rental property income (except land only), farm income, certain income items on Schedule K-1, moving expenses, casualty and theft losses, the Alternative Minimum Tax, and loss from a self-employment business,” she explained. “But if you want to itemize a standard return, we can help you with that.”

Dennis said if you are a new client, there will be some things you will need to bring with you to your appointment. They include:

  • All 2022 related papers including: SSA-1099, W-2, 1099-R, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, brokerage statements, etc.
  • Picture ID for taxpayer and spouse
  • Social Security cards for everyone on tax return
  • Health insurance form 1095-A (if insurance was purchased on the exchange)
  • Spouse if filing a joint return
  • Checkbook if you want your refund direct deposited
  • A copy of your 2021 tax return

All of the tax preparers are trained and certified by the IRS and AARP.

The Hartwell site will operate Mondays only from February 6 until April 10 from 8:45 AM until 4:00 PM at the Adult Learning Center, 110 Benson St. in Hartwell.

Service is by appointment only and will be serving returning clients and a limited number of new clients.
