City of Lavonia Taking Applications for Police Chief

The City of Lavonia is now taking applications for Chief of Police.

After 14 years as Police Chief for the City of Lavonia, Bruce Carlisle retired on November 30.

At the City Council meeting last week, Mayor Courtney Umbehant announced the City began receiving applications on December 5 and that will continue through January 20.

In late November, Umbehant said the interview and selection process will likely begin in February.

“I expect we’ll be accepting applications until the end of January and then we’ll go through the selection and interview process,” he said.

Assistant Police Chief Daniel Carson is serving at the Interim Police Chief.

Carson has been with the Lavonia Police Force for 11 years.

The Mayor said the search for a new police Chief will also involve getting outside experts to help with the process.

“We don’t have the specifics totally nailed down yet but we do expect to bring in some outside help for the interview process,” he said

The mayor said they hope to have a new police chief by the first of March.
