Free Adult Education Courses Available at North Georgia Technical College

North Georgia Technical College adults who want to finish or continue their education can do so through the free Adult Education Courses offered by North Georgia Technical College at their Currahee Campus and at two other nearby locations.
“We’ve got a program designed for people with different needs, different skill levels, different background levels,” said Adult Education Instructor Jackie Morgan. “We provide a full range of services for adults who want to improve their basic reading, math, and English skills and get a GED or to study for what they call the COMPASS exam, which is an exam to get into a technical college,” she said.
Anyone 16 years of age or older is welcome to enroll. However, a 16-year-old or a 17-year-old must have a withdrawal slip from the last school they attended, and they do have to have a parent or guardian come with them to register.
As for the cost, Morgan said the adult classes are free and a testing scholarship for the GED exam is also available.
“That’s the beautiful thing about the program, the cost is free. When you come to our classes, you come in and all of the services are free that we offer. Actually, taking the GED test, there are four components of the test, and each section is $40 per section. The test is paid for if you are in our program, you can receive a scholarship,” she said.
Morgan says they accept students throughout the year and students may start any time.
There are several locations where students can go for NGTC Adult Education classes.
They include the Currahee Campus on Highway 17, the Hope Center in downtown Toccoa, and at the Franklin County Board of Education offices in Carnesville.
The Adult Education Program is year-round and registration takes place twice a month. Students can start classes anytime during the year.
