Pedestrian Hit Last Week in Lavonia Has Died

The Toccoa man hit by an oncoming motorist last week in Lavonia has died but the driver who hit him is not facing charges.

It happened around 11p Monday, June 20 on Jones St.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Post 52 trooper who worked the scene, a Toccoa man, identified as 44-year-old Carlos Montez Bullard was struck crossing Jones St. by a 1999 Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by 42-year-old Russell Dexter Strickland of Royston.

In his report, the trooper said Strickland was traveling south on Jones St. Near Ross Place when Bullard entered the roadway.

Strickland’s vehicle struck Bullard with the front bumper.  Bullard landed on the concrete median.

He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries but according to the Georgia State Patrol, Bullard passed away Sunday from his injuries.

The case is still under investigation and has been transferred to the District Attorney’s office for further review.
