Stephens County School System Joins Purposity App to Help Students in Need

Purposity giving app becoming popular with local school systems

The Stephens County School system is joining a host of schools around the country to find a way to help students with a need.

Recently, the school system signed up with the app Purposity.

According to their Web site, school systems and non-profits in local communities sign up for Purposity to let people know of needs in the area.

They then spread the word to individuals nearby who are willing to help.

Donors can click a link, see the need, and make a difference for someone near them.

Purposity app developers say the premise is the belief that humanity finds purpose through generosity.

At a recent school board meeting, Stephens County School Deputy Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham, said the system joined Purposity in the hopes that people in the community will help fulfill the needs of students.

“It’s a means by which we can put out needs that our students may have, and if someone in our community wants to meet that need, they can sign on the app and send money to the need,” he explained. “These will come through our school social worker.”

Those needs could be school clothes, books, money for a school trip, cafeteria money..anything a student might need in order to succeed in class.

Needs will be posted on the School system web site. He said all donations are done anonymously.

“So you can sign up for the app, find the Stephens County School System and see what our needs are. It’s a great way for people to have needs posted and met. It’s anonymous. No one is going to know where it (the donation) comes from,” he said.

Other local school systems that have signed up with Purposity include Rabun, Lumpkin, Union, Towns, and Hall County schools systems as well as the Mountain Education Center schools.

The Purposity app is available to download for free on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
