Emmanuel College Ag Dept. looking for donations

The Emmanuel College Agriculture Department is in need of working farm equipment for class demonstrations and lab activities and is asking for the public’s help.

Owen Thomason, department developer and chair for the Diversified Agriculture Program at the college, said the program is fairly new.

This is our third year with the diversified agriculture program at Emmanuel College. We are very fortunate to have 40 students in the program. We have grown rapidly through the support of the Northeast Georgia community and across the state of Georgia. We have students from all over the state and the Southeast working toward getting their bachelor’s degree in diversified agriculture. We have four concentrations. Once they decide to go into the program, they can select agricultural business, science, missions or communications,” said Thomason.

The college is in need of working equipment so students can get the hands-on experience they need.

The agriculture department is looking for some equipment that we can use for demonstrations and also for the students to get experience in using. Our department is fortunate to have forty acres of land that the college allows the students to gain hands-on experiences while they’re earning their degree,” said Thomason.

Thomason also said the equipment needs to be in working order since the college did not have the facilities to repair equipment.

The college is hoping to get several pieces of equipment as well as some smaller items as well.

The types of equipment that we are looking for would be small three-point implements that would work with a 50-70 horse tractor. We are looking for plows, drag harrows, scrape blades- various pieces of equipment that would work with that size tractor. We’re also in need of hand tools or any other type of farm tools that individuals are not using anymore, or maybe they have two of, or maybe they need help with decluttering,” said Thomason.
