The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently made several arrests following an investigation that was spurred on by a phone call from Mega Motorsports.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, his office was contacted by an employee at Mega Motorsports who was concerned that a customer used fake identification to make a purchase.

Investigators were informed that a female claiming to be from Hartwell came in and purchased a 4-wheeler and a dirt bike, but instead of transporting the vehicles to Hartwell, she hired a wrecker service to transport the items to the Atlanta area.

Investigators obtained the license number and name from the ID presented by the female and ran it through GCIC. The name did not match the license number nor the picture on the ID.

Investigators then learned that the female contacted a wrecker driver before leaving Mega Motorsports.

Shirley says, the female suspect told the tow truck driver to take the items to the Wal-Mart parking lot instead of Atlanta; and that she would meet him with a trailer to pick up the vehicles.

Investigators and deputies set up surveillance in the Wal-Mart parking lot near the tow truck and waited for the female to arrive.

When she arrived, investigators and deputies surrounded the vehicle.

Two male suspects were also in the female’s vehicle.

She voluntarily surrendered her fake ID and a fake social security card.

Shirley says the stolen vehicles were returned to Mega Motorsports.

37-year-old Brittany Smith, of Hampton; 38-year-old Harold Clements, of Atlanta; and 27-year-old Daiquon Horton, of Union City, were arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail and were charged with five counts of forgery in the first degree and two counts of identity fraud.

All three remain in the Stephens County Jail on a $95,000 bond.
