19 Injured Thursday Night in Stephens County Wreck

Prayers likely going up today for 19 people injured in Stephens County Thursday night while on their way to a retreat at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa.

It happened about 8:30p last night on Highway 123 near the 17Bypass.

According to FoxNews 21,  the Stephens County Sheriff’s office reports a Lincoln Town Car struck a church van head on in a curve on 123.  The van was reportedly coming from a church in Conyers, GA.

18 passengers on the van were injured and were taken to area hospitals, but authorities say none of the injuries were life threatening.

However, firefighters had to use the jaws of life to extricate the driver of the Lincoln Towncar from his vehicle.

He suffered serious injuries according to troopers and was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

His name has not yet been released.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Toccoa Post continue to investigate why the driver of the Towncar crossed the center line and struck the van.
