19 Arrested Over Labor Day Weekend in Franklin County

It was a busy weekend for Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas, his officers made multiple arrests during routine and concentrated traffic patrols.

“For the holiday weekend, Franklin County deputies arrested six for DUI, nine on drug charges, two on driving violations, two reckless driving for a total of 19 arrests as well as 20 other traffic citations,” Thomas said. “I want to commend my  officers for doing a good job in making our highways and byways safe for citizens and those who pass through this county.”

For the State overall, the Georgia State Patrol reports 10 traffic-related deaths over the Labor Day weekend .

Six were investigated by the GSP and four by local law enforcement across the state.  One of those 10 traffic fatalities was in the Troop B area, which is covered by the Toccoa Post of the State Patrol.

It happened U.S. Highway 441 in Rabun County near “Goats on the Roof.”

Troopers say a 64-year-old Reba Sue Worley of Franklin, North Carolina was killed when a pick-up truck driven by her husband crossed the median of the highway into oncoming traffic.  Their pick up was then struck by an SUV.

The woman’s husband was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.  Five other people were taken to Mountain Lakes Medical Center with injuries.

The 78-hour holiday period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 29 and ended midnight on Monday, Sept. 1.
