50-Mile Yard Sale Hailed as a Success

The Hart County Chamber of Commerce is basking in the glow of another successful 50-mile yard sale.

Literally thousands came from all over Northeast Georgia and beyond to scoop up deals at one of the dozens of yard sale booths.

Sellers rented spaces in several shopping center parking lots,  while property owners set up sales in their front yards throughout Hartwell and Hart County.

Chamber Director Nicki Meyer said unlike the spring sale, which was essentially rained out, Saturday’s event was picture perfect.

“It’s been a Chamber of Commerce day in Hart County,” Meyer said Saturday. “We have been swamped with people since 7:30a before people were even well set up. It’s been great.’

The Chamber sponsored a total five separate locations where sellers could rent space to sell their wares.  Hart County’s 50-mile yard sale inspired those in neighboring towns, such as Lavonia, to also hold sales of their own.   The event draws buyers from as far away as Atlanta and Greenvile.

The yard sale has been so successful for Hart County and Hartwell that Meyer said she’s now talking to other chambers in the Northeast Georgia area about expanding it to their communities.

“We would love to be able to do that,” Meyer said. ” We still have a lot to work out.  We have pulled people from Augusta, a caravan from Blairsville, GA came down. People from all over the region have come here. We would love to expand this. That would be exciting.”

The Hart County Chamber sponsors two 50-mile yard sales a year – one in the spring and one in the fall.
