12/02/13 – “Gracia” – Loving Kitten at Hart County Humane Society

GraciaWe are told all the time, “you can’t save them all”, and we understand that to be fact at this time.

We also know that those of us who live rescue everyday will not leave an animal in need that has crossed our path without doing something to get it to safety.

The weakest and sickest are the ones we fight hardest for and they are the ones that hurt us the most. Meet our Gracia!

On the trip to pick up a rescue dog, a tiny grey kitten was spotted eating a dead animal on the road. Of course the trip was detoured, but even with food and gentle coaxing the fearful kitten ran off.

We left determined to return. With the rescue of the dog accomplished, we went back to find the kitten eating the food we left him. After a long time of pretending not to be paying attention to the starving animal, a swift pounce rewarded us with a very wild kitten.

It would have been easy to make him a barn cat or send him to an already crowded shelter, but that’s not what we did.

Gracia was kept safe in a comfortable crate where he would be picked up and petted several times a day. Soon he began to look for someone to come.

Next he was allowed to live and play with a foster family, where he learned to trust and be loved.

Gracia’s foster family love him so much they are searching for a better home than they are providing. With them he is one of too many cats, all deserving to be cherished.

Our kitty is shy at first until he knows no harm will come. Because of Gracia’s shyness, he doesn’t show well at PetSmart, but we know how awesome he is.

This five-month old neutered kitten has tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, has received age appropriate vaccinations, been treated for parasites and put on preventative. For more information please call 706-436-0965 or email[email protected].

The Hart County Humane Society is a volunteer rescue organization. We receive no funding from any government agencies or other groups. We are a 501C3 non-profit organization. Donations are desperately needed to fund our foster/rescue and spay/neuter programs.
