10-year Old Girl Killed in House Fire in Jackson County Saturday

The Georgia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the tragic death of a little girl over the weekend, killed when her house caught fire.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s office, it happened about 11:30p Saturday night at home in Hoschton on Skelton Rd.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said in a press release, a caller to 911 told dispatchers the home was engulfed in flames with a 10-year old girl trapped inside.

“The caller said the little girl was their daughter,” Mangus said. “When deputies arrived the caller said the girl was still trapped inside. Deputies attempted to make entry. However, they were unsuccessful due to the smoke and flames. Fire personnel arrived on the scene and were able to make entry and located the child.”

The little girl was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by a Med Unit, where she was pronounced dead. The caller was transported to Grady Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Mangus said the investigation is ongoing by the Georgia State Fire Marshall’s Office, Jackson County Coroner, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Names of the victims have not been released.
