08/18/14 – “Matty” – Male Shihtzu at Hart County Humane Society

"Matty" Before

“Matty” Before

This trip to the animal shelter was to drop off medicine, not intended to rescue animals. Much like an addiction, the urge to do a walk through is difficult to resist. I always see animals that especially touch my heart but I leave them there.

I ask the shelter staff to call if any of these pets are not adopted or rescued and run out of time. We are their last hope, the ones left behind. When I passed the horribly matted mess of a dog I knew his only option was with us. There was no telling what type of breed he could be but it was certain he was in pain. The little dog couldn’t walk or even go potty, grooming him would cause him even more pain.

A call was made to Three Trees Veterinary Services where he was taken for care. In less than a day the little dog was neutered, shaved down, had a dental, micro chipped, vaccinated, tested negative for heart worms, treated for a horrible infestation of parasites and put on preventative.

We believe he is approximately three years old and he is now the happiest and most loving little dog. When his coat grows in he will be a gorgeous Shih Tzu.
