08/12/13 – “Hope” – German Shepherd at Hart County Humane

HopeUntil one rescues an emotionally injured animal you cannot really understand the heartache involved in rehabilitating one. If an animal survives an illness or injury it may be left with a physical scar or disability but their soul remains whole.
Animals don’t see themselves or each other with missing limbs, blind or deaf, they only know they are pain free and cared for. An animal that is fearful cannot tell us the cause of its turmoil or what demons have caused it, there is no prescription or surgery to repair a damaged soul. The only hope for an animal with a broken heart is a person dedicated to building her trust in mankind and teaching her it’s okay love and be loved.
We have a dog in need of a rescue angel. Hope was found last winter deep in the woods by friendly horseback riders. It was clear she had recently nursed puppies but none were in the vicinity. It hurt to witness the poor dogs emaciated body and skeleton frame under thin patches of fur, but efforts to help only made her run deeper into the woods. A humane trap was set and within hours the starving German Sheppard was caught. Hope has been spayed, treated for heart worms along with a severe case of whip and round worms; she is up to date with vaccinations and parasite preventatives.
She has been loved and cared for in a foster home with other dogs and now responds positively with her foster mom. She is completely house trained and feels safest in the home. Our prayer is to find someone dedicated to helping Hope gain the necessary confidence to become the majestic German Sheppard we know she is. We feel a quieter home where she can be the focus of attention would be a benefit to Hopes rehabilitation. Rescuing animals is a rewarding experience, rescuing the neediest of animals is a calling beyond explanation.
