Two Local Churches Announce Food Giveaways Next Month

Two local churches are holding food giveaways in early November but one of them could lose their support from the Northeast Georgia Food Bank.

First on November 1 Martin Baptist Church, in partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, will distribute free food to all qualifying residents of the Martin area of Stephens and Franklin Counties from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

To receive food a Participant’s signature on the form at the Food Pantry serves as proof of income and no other documents are required.

Program benefits and participation are made available to everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or disability.

Martin Baptist Church is located just north of the caution light in downtown Martin on the west side of Highway 17.

Just turn off Highway 17 on to Red Hollow Road by the Laundromat and follow the
signs.

Another food distribution will take place November 7 at Allens United Methodist Church on Highway 106 in Martin.

The Reverend Paul Garner is pastor at Allens United Methodist Church.

He said his congregation has been handing out free food for the past five years.

However, recently they have had a drop in the number of families coming on distribution day.

He said they have been told by the Food Bank that if there are not 30 families coming to their distribution on November 7, the Food Bank will stop bringing them food and the ministry will end.

Garner said there’s a great need in that area for food especially for the elderly.

Again, the church’s next food distribution is Monday, November 7 from 10a to 1p at Allens United Methodist Church.
