Two Deaths on North Georgia Lakes Over July 4th Holiday

All appeared safe and quiet on Hartwell Lake over the holiday weekend.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division reports no BUI arrests or accidents over the July 4th holiday.

However,  that wasn’t the case on two other North Georgia lakes.  The DNR reports a woman drowned Sunday in Lake Lanier after falling from a dock.

Authorities said neither the victim nor her husband knew how to swim. After she fell into the water, her husband jumped in to try and save her but he also had to be rescued.

The victim’s name has not been released.

And a 52-year-old man died on Lake Allatoona in Cobb County when he was run over by his boat after he fell into the water.

Authorities say Robert Lewis, of Dallas, GA fell from his boat Sunday morning and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman, Melissa Cummings, said the man’s boat  circled at full throttle for about 15 minutes before it ran out of gas and came to a stop.

Lewis was not wearing a life jacket when he fell in the water.
