Toys for Tots Breaking Records for Helping Families This Year

Toys for Tots now taking donations

The local chapter of Toys for Tots has already given out toys to over 3,000 children and requests are still coming in from families for toys for their children.

With the high cost of living and superinflation, more families are struggling to make ends meet and are unable to provide the kind of Christmas gifts they may have been able to in the past.

Mike Prather, Toys for Tots Coordinator for Franklin, Hart, and Elbert Counties said Monday his phone is ringing off the hook.

Prather said toys that cost $10 last year are now $20 to $25 and many families just can’t afford it.

He said if you find yourself in need of toys for your children for Christmas there’s still time this week to sign up.

Prather said because of the number of children that were helped last year, the Toys for Tots Foundation in Virginia sent them large pallets of toys this year in addition to what they’ve been collecting from the general public.

And if you would like to donate a new toy, drop boxes are set up at all Pinnacle Bank locations, all Dollar General stores in the three county area, and at other area businesses.

You can also make a financial donation by going online to the Toys for Tots website at toysfortots.org and clicking on Donate.

Again if you need toys there are two numbers you can call to apply: 706-297-8431 or 706-297-3275 or go online to Toys for Tots.org.
