TORCH to Hose Party For the Park Saturday

The non-profit group TORCH is asking people to get their dancing shoes on this weekend to raise money for a downtown project.

On Saturday, they will be hosting a Party for the Park dance-a-thon at the Hart County High School gym.

The group is trying to raise money to restore Railroad St in downtown Hartwell and turn it into a community park and destination area.

Organizer Kristin Joyner said the dance-a-thon takes place Saturday, May 7th from 1p to 10p.

Joyner said they are hoping teams of people will work together as a group to raise money and compete against other teams to raise the most money.

“We are challenging the dancers to get together in groups and try and solicit raising funds for dancing at the event. The group that raises the most funds will get $500,” she said.

Joyner said they will also have experienced dancers on hand to help teams with different kinds of dances, such as line dancing.

Earlier this year, TORCH members asked the County for $25,000 to help pay for the train depot renovation, but the County refused.

The City of Hartwell, however, is helping with the cost and the group is also applying for grant monies.

Again, the Party for the Park dance-a-thon takes place Saturday, from 1p to 10p at the Hart County High School gym.

If you would like to come out and watch the dancers compete, you can purchase tickets at the door.

“It’s going to be a family fun event, Joyner said. “Children under 12 can get in free. If anyone wants to come and just watch the dancers, there’s a $5 entrance fee.”
