Toccoa Man Charged in Shooting Over the Weekend

A Toccoa man is starting the new year behind bars after a shooting over the New Year’s weekend.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, it happened at around 10p Friday night on Stephen Drive in Toccoa.

He said officers responded to a report of two individuals with gunshot wounds.

Once officers arrived, the scene was secured for investigators and EMS treated the wounded.

Mize said the victim is identified as 36-year-old Henry Coleman Payne of Toccoa.

Payne said the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Mitchell Tucker of Toccoa
had fired a shot into the vehicle the victim was sitting in. Payne told police that the shot had pierced the window and struck the complainant in the left ear.

Debris from the glass had also cut Shanna Louise Tucker 36, of Toccoa who was also sitting in the vehicle.

According to Chief Mize, several witnesses on the scene were interviewed and were able to provide police with the description of a white male and the truck he was driving.

Another witness was able to identify Tucker as the shooter.

Investigators with the Toccoa Criminal Investigations Division were called to investigate and determined the shooting was a domestic violence incident.

After further investigation, Tucker was arrested at his residence and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Criminal Damage to Property, one count of Reckless Conduct, and one count of Discharge of Firearm on or near Public Highway or Street.

Tucker was taken into custody without incident and was transported to Stephens County Detention Center.
