Six Fr. Co. Middle School Students Selected to Play in District Honor Band

Franklin County Middle School had six students accepted into the Georgia Music Educators Association District 14 Honor Band.

Last weekend, the students did a blind audition before judges and will be playing in the District Honor Band with over 200 of the best Middle School musicians on February 2nd and 3rd.

“I’m really proud of this group of students,” said Band Director Brad Maffett. “This core group of students is highly motivated and will come during any free moment to the band room to improve. No teacher could ask for more.”

The students are Andrew Nguyen, Brooke Tate, Rob Tate, Jenny Ruth Stephenson, Justin Nguyen, and Kate Graham. Andrew Nguyen tried out and was accepted on two instruments.

This is one of the largest groups selected from Franklin County Middle, according to Maffett.

“This is my first time making the band. I’m excited about this opportunity to play music with my friends,” said 8th grader Jenny Ruth Stephenson.

According to Maffett, Franklin County Middle School had more students selected to the Honor Band than Banks, Commerce, Elbert, Hart, Madison, Stephens, and Rabun combined.
