Second Fatal Accident on Lake Hartwell Takes Life of Banks County Man

A second accident on Lake Hartwell this weekend took the life of a Banks County man.

According to Hart County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Chris Carroll and Mark McKinnon with the Georgia DNR, at about 8p a call came into 911 regarding a possible drowning at the Hartwell Marina.

“The Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Ga DNR, Hart County Emergency Management, Hart County Ems, and Hart County Fire Dept. responded to the scene,” Carroll said.

Carroll told WLHR News witnesses told authorities the boat had pulled up to the dock and a man attempted to step off the boat and onto the dock but missed and fell into the water.

A rescue team used a remotely operated vessel to search for the man underwater. He was located under a boat slip in about 16 ft of water.

Carroll said the man is identified as Randy Lamar Beasley, age 47 of Commerce.

His body was turned over to the Hart County Coroner.

Carroll said Sunday that Hart County Coroner Mike Adams is checking to see if there will be an autopsy.

He said no other information is currently available.
