Royston Officials to Cut Ribbon Today on Upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plant

After several years of planning and work, the City of Royston will unveil its newly upgraded water/wastewater treatment plant this evening.

A special ribbon cutting will take place at the facility on Spring St. late this afternoon at 5:30p.

City Manager Ed Andrews said the project to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant started several years ago after the City collected data required by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, which later determined the facility was out of compliance with State regulations.

In 2017, the EPD approved a plan to upgrade the plant that enables the City to handle new customers and future needs for the next 25-30 years, according to Andrews.

The City was then awarded a Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan worth $2-million from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to help pay for the project.

Royston will have 20 years to pay back the low-interest loan.
