Royston Man Charged After Multiple Crashes

A Royston man is facing multiple traffic charges after allegedly causing several accidents.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post 52, it happened the night of October 19.

In the first accident, a 2002 blue Saturn driven by 50-year-old Tony Outz of Royston was parked on the side of Highway 145 near Starrs Bridge Road when at about 7:30p he pulled out in front of an oncoming 2023 Chevy Equinox traveling south on 145.

The incident report states Outz’s vehicle did not have its headlights on when he pulled out and hit the Equinox – striking it on the passenger side.

That also caused the driver of a 2018 Chevy Silverado traveling behind to hit the Equinox, coming to an uncontrolled rest on 145 Southbound.

Troopers at the scene determined the vehicle Outz was driving was owned by his passenger Dusty Glen Higgens of Calhoun Falls, SC.

Then at about 8:30p Outz was involved in another vehicle accident near the intersection of GA 145 and GA 51 in which he crossed the center line and collided with a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander.

Troopers conducted a field sobriety test at the scene, which Outz failed and he was arrested.

According to the incident report, Outz admitted to Troopers that he was under the influence of alcohol and could not remember either accident nor where he was, or where he was going.

Outz was taken to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart where the incident report states he refused a blood test for alcohol before being taken to the Franklin County jail.

Outz faces multiple charges including driving under the influence, driving on a revoked or suspended license, failing to yield to oncoming traffic, intoxicated/impaired driver, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident.
